MISSOURI

State Rock: Mozarkite (1967) (Formerly known as Missouri Agate)
State Mineral: Galena (1967)
State Fossil: Delocrinus missouriensis (Crinoid) (1989)
State Dinosaur: Hypsibema missouriensis (2004)

Missouri’s geology is dominated by the Ozark Uplift which is ne of the most mineral rich areas in the world. There are many, many old mines and large quarries located around Missouri as well.

Numerous Geodes can be found in the northeastern part of the state and almost any river or stream bed is like to have them too. You can also find Petrified Wood and Agate in these locations.

Missouri Druze is one of the most beautiful rocks in Missouri. It can be found in abundance in Washington, County.

Of course, you will also want to look for some Mozarkite (which is a fine grained chert). Typically, its colors are different hues of red, pink and purple with varying tints of gray, green, and brown. Mozarkite is most commonly found near Lake of the Ozarks and at the edge of the Ozark foothills.

Approximately two dozen meteorites have been found in Missouri.
